What is Community Connections?
Community Connections is a local befriending scheme working across Monmouthshire. We link volunteers with older people that are isolated and lonely and offer a bit of practical and friendly help.
Who are we trying to reach?
We would like to meet more people who feel rurally isolated and in particular those who don't have family or friend networks to rely on. People may feel isolated for a range of reasons, for example, bereavement, impairment or mobility problems, mental health etc. People can refer themselves to us or be referred to us by another agency. Volunteering with us.
We rely on local volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds. Anyone over 16 years of age is welcome to apply to volunteer with us. We check, support and train our volunteers and link them with people who we think they will get on with. We aim to help people to do the things they enjoy and to remain independent as long as possible.
What happens if I ask for help?
One of our project co-ordinators will come out to visit you. They will discuss what kind of help you might appreciate and will ask you about your interests and background. This information will assist us with matching the right volunteer to you. The project co-ordinator will keep in touch with you on a regular basis to ensure that you are happy and getting the most out of befriending.
